Independent Supported Living (ISL) means having both freedom and reassurance. It allows people to live in homes that are truly theirs and make their own choices while surrounded by peers and staff who feel like family.

Where Comfort Meets Confidence
Our ISL homes for adults with disabilities in Kansas City, MO, are more than a place to live. They’re communities where people have the freedom to choose how they spend their day, with compassionate support always on standby.

Every person sets their own goals, and we meet them wherever they are. From cooking and cleaning to budgeting and safety awareness, we inspire self-reliance and pride through real-world learning.
Everyone deserves the power of choice. At Harmony House, ISL isn’t about doing something for someone, but doing it with them. We provide the space and support people need to achieve their goals, their way.
The Confidence of Everyday Living
Independence, confidence, and fulfillment aren’t given; they’re built.

Daily Responsibilities
Preparing meals, doing laundry, cleaning dishes, and other everyday tasks are impactful growth opportunities. With steady guidance and encouragement, residents learn to care for and take pride in their space.

Meaningful Routines
Every person’s day looks different, and that’s the way it should be. From sharing coffee in the morning to taking a quiet walk in the afternoon, we provide the structure and space for people to find their rhythm.

Managing Money
Financial independence includes everything from planning a grocery trip to counting change. Whether someone’s saving up for something special or budgeting their weekly expenses, we help them make confident choices.

Staying Safe
At our ISL homes for adults with disabilities in Kansas City, safety lessons are lived, not lectured. From locking doors to crossing the street, residents practice awareness and setting boundaries.

Personal Care
Self-care should feel attainable, personal, and rewarding. By instilling hygiene habits and helping people keep track of medications and doctor’s visits, we help them lay the foundation for a healthy life.

Shared Living
Our homes balance privacy and connection. Everyone can choose when they join the group and when to recharge in their own space, knowing that friends are never far away and they are in control.
Protected, Not Restricted
At Harmony House Care Homes, someone is always nearby—not hovering, but there. Our round-the-clock staff supports residents however and whenever they need. They’re trained to keep everyone safe and handle emergencies, but they also recognize when to step in and when to simply be present.
True safety comes from knowing you’re understood, and our residents feel like lifelong friends. We know every routine, favorite snack, and comfort cue by heart.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our ISL program supports individuals who are eligible for Adult Medicaid and have an approved DMH (Department of Mental Health) waiver. Most of our ISL homes are in the Blue Springs area, serving individuals and families in Independence, Lee’s Summit, and the Kansas City area.
Instead of an application, we use the DMH’s (Department of Mental Health) compatibility tool to determine whether individuals may be a good fit for our ISL services. Once we’ve established compatibility, we invite potential residents to visit the home and meet current residents, as well as the support staff. From there, the final decision is made together, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident moving forward.
We recognize that feeling at home in a new house takes time, so we don’t rush new residents. Instead, our staff gently guides individuals through their first days in our ISL homes for adults with disabilities in Kansas City, recognizing when to provide support and space.
Of course, we help everyone learn the layout and meet their housemates, but most importantly, we give them the freedom to define their routines. Residents’ spaces are theirs, so we encourage them to decorate and organize however they see fit, knowing they can always step away from the group.
Yes, most of our residents have one housemate. We prioritize every individual’s comfort levels by thoughtfully matching them with a compatible housemate, so everyone feels respected and at home in their personal space.

Absolutely. Our ISL homes for adults with disabilities in Kansas City, MO, are homes, not facilities. Residents have full control over their space, and we respect their personal choices and independence. Each individual decides who they’d like to visit and when.
